mission

Our mission is to provide all New Yorkers with easy access to information about the full range of health and human services programs and services provided throughout New York State.

funding

Unlike 9-1-1, 2-1-1 New York will most likely not be funded by new taxes. Rather, we support the position that initial and ongoing funding for 2-1-1 service in New York State will be through a public-private partnership that includes federal, state and local government funding streams and United Way; corporate and other charitable entities; and major gifts and endowments.

guiding principles
  • 2-1-1 New York will build on existing information and referral (I&R) infrastructure
  • Regional planning will account for distinct regional differences
  • Protocols will be developed with specialized I&R providers to ensure appropriate calls get to content experts
  • Nine regional call centers will be interconnected to provide backup during emergencies
current status
  • Nationally, As of April 2009, 2-1-1 serves over 240 million Americans (more than 80% of the entire population) covering all or part of 46 states (including 33 states with 90%+ coverage) plus Washington DC and Puerto Rico.
  • In New York State, 2-1-1 services are provided to 18,091,543 people, or 93% of the state's population. 2-1-1 services are available to the Finger Lakes, Western New York, Hudson Valley, Northeastern New York, North Country, New York City, Long Island and Susquehanna River Regions. Planning is underway to bring service to the remaining 7% of the state. Click here to view 2-1-1 NY Services Map.
