So what’s 2-1-1? When you dial this number, you’ll get a specialist who can refer you to the resources you need, from counseling to food stamps to employment assistance—almost anything.

In fact, just last year, 2-1-1 Finger Lakes—one of New York State’s nine regional call centers—assisted more than 56,000 callers. In the same year, over 15,000 callers received help from the Hudson Valley 2-1-1 system, which played a crucial role in aiding flood victims in late June.

But 2-1-1 New York can also help in non-crises. For example, Hudson Valley 2-1-1 serves as the starting point for EITC-eligible residents of Rockland and Westchester counties to get free tax-preparation services.

And 2-1-1 New York continues to expand across the state. Another five identified regions are currently working to provide 2-1-1 services to their residents—the Northeast Region, the North Country, three counties centered around Broome County, the Leatherstocking Region and Long Island. As director, I will provide support and help develop services in all regions across the state through technical assistance and training to ensure a high-quality 2-1-1 system.
