Three-digit telephone codes are easy-to-remember abbreviated phone numbers that allow telephone users to place specialized phone calls. The three-digit phone numbers that are currently in operation in New York State are: 2-1-1, 3-1-1, 4-1-1, 5-1-1, 6-1-1; 7-1-1; 8-1-1, and 9-1-1 and all have been in place for several years; in 2000, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) assigned the 2-1-1 code for access to health and human services information and referral services.
